Musheng Chen (other used name Biao Chen) was born in 1971 in the province of Zhejiang in the south east of China. Today he is considered as one of the most remarkable Chinese composers of his generation.

From 1993 to 1998 he studied counterpoint, orchestration and composition at the Shanghai Conservatory with the Chinese masters Chen Mingzhi, Yang liqing and Zhao Xiaosheng etc. He settled in Geneva in October 2000/04 where he undertook composition studies in the class of Eric Gaudibert at the Conservatory of Geneva, parallel to this he attended in 2003/04 a masterclass held by Klaus Huber at the Conservatorio della Svizzera Italiana in Lugano. From 2004 to 2005 he lived in Paris as a composer in residence at the Cité International des Arts.

His works have been performed at numerous festivals and concerts throughout Europe and Asia. Future projects include: a co-commission from the Berlin Philharmonic and Emilia Romagna Festival, a flute concerto for P-Y Artaud commissioned by the French government, and a new opera titled “San-Qi-Ju” (with libretto by Christopher Park). In 2005 his first string quartet was performed in Switzerland by the Arditti String Quartet, and In January 2008 his orchestra piece A Dream in the Peony Garden was performed in London by the BBC Symphony Orchestra, in March 2008 his piano concerto will be premiered at the Grand Theater of Tours with soloist Georges Pludermacher

Musheng's music is profoundly influenced by Chinese traditional culture.  He is an exponent of the "Art of One Note's World" and "Pitch-Axis Composition" theories, which are based on the "one note" and "Yun-Gong-Diao" principles of Chinese traditional music, respectively.

He has received many international prizes and awards, including the first grand prize of the Concours Dutilleux (France), first symphony prize of the Ciutat di Tarragona (Spain), first prize form the Academie de Lutèce (Paris), first prize of the ICOMS (Italy), first honorary mention form the Accademia Costantiniana (Rome), finalist award of the Queen Elisabeth Competition (Belgium).

Among his works, the most important : the suite Ch¡äan I,II&III, the series of Yun, the series of Lun Hui , the series of He(Resonance), and the circles of les franges du rêve.

Musheng Chen presently is a member of the Association of Swiss Musicians and the SUISA. His some scores publish by the Alphonse Leduc Editions in Paris. From September 2006 onwards he will be teaching at the Shanghai Conservatory of Music.
